UNITED STATES RALLY CHAMPIONSHIPS PRESCOTT RALLY COMPLETES PACIFIC DIVISION FOR 2008
Prescott, Arizona — Round 3 of the United States Rally Championships Pacific Division. The Prescott Rally, the final qualifying round prior to the season finale at International Rally New York, is complete with qualifying positions now set.
A compressed two-day schedule allowed teams to participate in a multiple pass recce session Friday morning, register and inspect competing vehicles Friday afternoon, complete the competition stages Friday night and Saturday with awards and prize giving Saturday night. The weather was cool and dry Friday but Saturday dawned overcast and breezy with the last two stages run in the rain. 30 teams took the green flag on Friday with 26 making it to the finish.
The Open AWD ranks were dominated by the Scott Roofing sponsored entry of Brian Scott (Pine, Arizona) and John Dillon (Thousand Oaks, California). Brian and John won every stage outright and had nearly five minutes in hand at the conclusion. A near-record run on the very popular Witty Tom stage (7) resulted in a time of 6:57. Sub-seven minute times on this stage are a rarity. Following the team to the finish were George Plsek/Piers OHanlon in second overall and third overall went to Jimmy/Melissa Keeney in their Production AWD entry. Brian Scott and Jimmy Keeney are already making plans for the trip to New York to challenge for the Championship.
On the two-wheel drive side of things, George Doganis and Tom Smiths Sentra SE-R just beat out Chrissie Beavis/Terry Stonecipher in their Jetta by 14 seconds on the weekend. These two teams swapped stage times throughout the 8 stages. Third 2WD went to the Production 2WD entry of Kris and Christine Marciniak in their trusty Neon. These three also completed the event in the 8th, 9th and 10th overall positions. The Marciniaks have made plans to join the fray in New York.
This years event featured 101 stage miles over the two day format with activities based at Tims Subaru and the Prescottonian Hotel in Prescott, Arizona. Sponsors for the event include Scott Roofing of Phoenix, Tims Subaru of Prescott along with the Subaru Western Region, The Prescottonian Hotel, Whiskey Row Screen Printing and Checkpoint Racing. Timing and Scoring was provided by the California Rally Series.
