PHOENIX, Arizona, USA -- In what was a tragic weekend for rallying, following the deaths of Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman, AV Sport continued their successful run in the 2003 SCCA ProRally series.
Tim ONeil and Alex Gelsomino finished 2nd overall in the Air Force Reserve Focus, keeping pressure on winner David Higgins until the final stage.
"Testing prior to the event enabled some changes to the cars set up and Tim drove an exceptional event," commented team boss Andy Brown.
ONeil extended his 2nd place points position and is looking forward to Maine, an event that has to be classed as his local rally.
Shane Mitchell and Paul Donnelly continue to impress in their Group N Subaru Impreza. A fuel pump switch failure cost Mitchell 15 minutes, however he was regularly the fastest Group N car on the second day.
Craig Peeper and Ian Bevan had their best event of the year, finishing 4th in Group N and 10th overall.
All of us at AV Sport would like to extend our condolences and deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman, and to the entire Subaru Rally Team. Mark and Roger were great competitors and true ambassadors to the sport of rally in North America. They will be missed.
