PHOENIX, Arizona, USA -- AV Sport had an eventful rally in California at the weekend, contesting the Rim of the World Rally. With a rainstorm that made the already rough roads a serious hazard, one of the toughest rallies of the series once again lived up to its reputation.
Shane Mitchell and Paul Donnelly drove to a superb Group N win/7th overall, finishing 2 minutes ahead of their nearest competitor. Mitchell is now tied for the lead of the Group N class and looking forward to more familiar roads at STPR.
Tim ONeil and Alex Gelsomino, in the Air Force Reserve Ford Focus, finished 5th overall. Despite problems with a misting windscreen, ONeil was able to finish ahead of the 2nd factory Subaru.
Craig Peeper competed for the first time with a new STi engine, enjoying the power benefits over last years WRX motor.
Mark Nelson and Charles Bradley debuted the new AV Sport open class Subaru, and despite niggling "new car" problems, were able to get some test mileage in before a turbo failure on the 2nd day.
"To come away from such a tough event with a 5th and 7th overall and a Group N win is very satisfying," commented team boss Andy Brown. Cheers, Mike Anderson AV Sport USA tel 602-431-9357 fax 602-426-0876
