2004:
3rd Overall in NASA ESRC
1st in P2 class (beat the other guy)
Ran all of the ESRC events and ran Defi and Baie in CARS
When asked why he decided to go rallying, Randy quipped, "I finally bowed to Ann Jones' pressure - ran out of affordable classes in road racing and after doing well in some rallyX events, went to a school to see if my back could take the pounding. That was 2001. I never went to a rally before that, just heard about them."
"I'm a 1952 model that started road racing late and did that for 20 years before starting to rally. I worked as a fab guy on Trans-Am cars and drove in the single seat Can-Am in 2L and an Indy car. I started out doing solo with a mini and road racing a Fiat X-1/9. I ran G-Prod in a Fiat, Rabbit-Bilstein, IMSA endurance and Longest days. I ran half the classes out there at one time or another but never with any budget to speak of."
Randy's first year on the rally circuit netted him some impressive finishes. He won both Cherokee Trail ClubRallys overall; was second overall at Rally Right; was 4th overall at Sandblast ClubRally; and 15th overall at Susquehannock Trail ProRally.
About his Subaru rally car Randy commented, "It's nothing special, just a home-made 2.5 RS made from an EBay 1993 Impreza and some newer wrecks. It is very reliable and cheap to run; it has over 35 rallys on it and won't slow down."
Says Randy, "I have been married to Debi for 25 years now. We have no kids, but we share our home with seven cats inside and one that guards the garage poorly. I have a crappy paying job that lets me out to rally whenever I need to."
Randy's sponsors include Redline Oil and Strate Welding Supply.
